Description Daniel Duris 2007-01-03 10:26:19 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: Slackware Packages
OS: Linux

Switching of keyboard layout via shortcuts (alt+shift+a in this case) does not work correctly.

I have two layouts - EN (default) + SK.

Sometimes it happens that after switching to SK, I am unable to switch back to EN via the keyboard shortcut. it only works via clicking the mouse on the flag.

This happens only sometimes (but very often though) and I have been unable to find out why it happens only sometimes, but often.

Did you try to turn on the option 'Include latin layout' ?
Comment 2 Daniel Duris 2007-01-07 17:37:13 UTC
how could that be possibly related? isn't that option just to have three keyboard layouts - one main US, then one main with both sub US/SK variants.

(almost) single purpose of that option is to fix problems with shortcut keys in non-latin layouts, take a look at the 'What's this' tooltip for the checkbox.
Comment 4 Daniel Duris 2007-01-07 22:52:27 UTC
I understand, but I am afraid this is nto the case: I am using ALT+SHIFT+A and this key stays the same both in US and SK layouts - there is no change in what it writes.

Can't reproduce it really. Just tried that and it switches just fine.
If you still see this problem could you please provide the x.org version you're using and attach ~/.kde/share/config/kxkbrc file?
Thanks.

ok, the problem occurs only if firefox webpage dropdown menu is open - e.g. if you go at google.com and start writing the search query, the dropdown with history of searches appears (this is the firefox browser form history, not of google) and at that time no switch is possible - e.g. the switching does not work. same goes for dropdown history browser menu when entering address in address bar etc.

also the correction: i am not using ALT+SHIFT+A, but: WIN(left)+SHIFT+A, as KDE does not appear to support switching via ALT+SHIFT (it treats it as some sort of special ISO key)...

oh, that's a problem with shortcut handling - I don't think I can fix it easily.
In KDE4 you would be able to define modifier-only shortcut which will be handled by x.org anb which works even when the dropdown box is down.

But I'll check why this happens though.

thanks for paying attention to this bug.

Sorry can't much help here - it's more generic problem, I am duplicating this bug.
Instead in KDE4 there'll be a workaround - if xkb (modifier-only) shortcut is defined for kxkb it would switch layout whether popup is active or not.
