Description Aldo Zegarra Casahuaman 2006-12-14 22:43:47 UTC
Version: 2.6.4 (using KDE 3.5.5 "release 45" , openSUSE 10.2)
Compiler: Target: i586-suse-linux
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.18.2-34-default

Hi KDE developers,

I keep having this problem with ark...

The Situation:
--------------
/dev/hdb6 / reiserfs acl,user_xattr 1 1
/dev/hdb8 /home reiserfs acl,user_xattr 1 2
/dev/hdd5 /home/azegarra/Downloads vfat users,gid=users,umask=0002,utf8=true 0 0

The File:
--------
I've downloaded a tarball, by example karchiver-3.4.2.b4.tar.bz2 (i was looking for another choice :p), in
/home/azegarra/Downloads/MyDownloads (fat32)

then i copy the file to another location /home/azegarra/Documents/ (reiserfs)

Permissions
------------
/home/azegarra/Documents/karchiver-3.4.2.b4.tar.bz2
-rwxrwxr-x 1 azegarra users 1196738 dic 14 15:48 karchiver-3.4.2.b4.tar.bz2
/home/azegarra/Downloads/MyDownloads/karchiver-3.4.2.b4.tar.bz2
-rwxrwxr-x 1 root users 1196738 dic 14 15:48 karchiver-3.4.2.b4.tar.bz2

The Problem
-----------

-I open my konqueror
-Move to /home/azegarra/Downloads/MyDownloads
-Select karchiver-3.4.2.b4.tar.bz2
-Right click, extract/ extract to karchiver-3.4.2.b4.tar.bz2
-Ark extracted all files succesfully
-Then suddenly appears: ARK-ERROR / OPERATION-FAILED + system beep, and "wait please" animated window still moving.

finally i did the same procedure with karchiver-3.4.2.b4.tar.bz2 in path /home/azegarra/Documents/, and everything is
right.

The Question:
------------
Why ark show error window in the first case if both are the same file.

The Hint:
---------
Maybe, Maybe ark was trying to change permisions... but i suppose ark should notice that this is imposible in vfat mounted like that. akr should try to override changing permissions.

Sorry:
---------
I never been post a bug, sorry if i make a mistake or don't post with rules.

Thank you guys,

Aldo Zegarra
