I get the same behavior. I narroewed uit to the MSN connection. Thanks Peter, that backtrace looks useful. It seems that for some reason the contact's id isn't getting filled. You may be able to work around the problem by renaming the ~/.kde/share/apps/kopete/contactlist.xml file (so that kopete doesn't find it. If that doesn't solve the problem, you can just move the file back).

I've installed the new 7.10 ubuntu version and I've got the same problem with the 0.12.7 version of Kopete. The workaround doesn't work for me, even by deleting the contactlist.xml file. I've got lots of stacktrace if you are interested in.

this bug occurs to me "Bug 153769" I'm using fedora 8 with kopete 0.12.7 NOTE: this is a new bug to me, I didn't happen before but suddenly things went bad I think after yum update(not sure).
Hello and happy holidays! I confirm these crashes with Kopete 0.12.7 on Kubuntu. When trying to connect to MSN, Kopete crashes. It crashes both with direct connection to messenger.hotmail.com:1863 and when I override the host through my VPN (and both HTTP method or not). Yahoo, IRC and ICQ seem to work fine. I am happy to note that moving ${HOME}/.kde/share/apps/kopete/contactlist.xml out of the way, starting Kopete and allowing it to process MSN notifications, then quitting it and renaming contactlist.xml back now allows me to successfully enable the MSN-protocol accounts without a crash.
Do you have a way to reproduce this bug? After removing the contactlist.xml file, does the bug come back later?

We've completely replaced the current MSN implementation with a new MSN implementation which If you continue to experience this bug after testing the new implementation (which can be gotten from our subversion repository or with the KDE 4.2 Beta 1 release), PLEASE, open a new bug rather than reopening this bug.
