Re.: Error 6

Hi,
I tried Google search, Ubuntu Forum, Kubuntu Forum, Linux Forum to get an answer to the following difficulty I have with KPPP. Although I'm not sure if it is a bug or not, I try this route before I give up using KDE.

I'm normally working with Gnome Desktop and out of curiosity I installed KDE in Ubuntu 6.10-64 bit

(see printout of command "uname -a":
karibu@BitByter:~$ uname -a
Linux BitByter 2.6.17-10-generic #2 SMP Fri Oct 13 15:34:39 UTC 2006 x86_64 GNU/Linux
karibu@BitByter:~$)

to find out what I like better.
When I chose "Session KDE" I want to use Kppp to connect to the Internet.
(The installed version is: KPPP 2.3.2 (Using KDE 3.5.5))
In Gnome Desktop I use GNOME ppp which works very well.

 Here is how I tried to configure kppp and connect to the Internet.

 --> Kstart
 ---> Internet
 ----> KPPP Internet Dial-Up Tool
 KPPP main menu opens.
Click Button: Configure
Click Tab: Accounts and select: New
'Create new Account' window opens. Select: Manual Setup
Enter Connection Name: Provider. In my case "Telus"
Enter Phone Number: Click: Add and enter the phone # to connect to Provider. In my case "359 6530".
  To finish configure click: ok

 Select tab: Modems and click: New
Under Device: enter 'Modem Name'. In my case: "TOPIC SEMICONDUCTOR Corp TP560"
Under Device: enter 'Modem Device'. In my case: "/dev/ttyS2"
Under Device: don't change 'Flow Control' and 'Line Termination'
Under Device: select 'Connection speed'. In my case: "575600"
  To finish configure click: ok

 Back to KPPP main menu.
Enter Login ID. In my case "lunaazul"
Enter Password. In my case "********"
Check mark "Show log window"
Click: Connect

 Window 'Connecting to: Telus' opens and says:
1)'Modem Ready' and a few seconds later
2)'Initializing Modem',
'Login Script Debug Window' opens but stays empty.

After a few more seconds both windows close and nothing happens.

Here is the print out of syslog which I got when I tried to connect like described above.

As one can see, there is repeatedly reported an ocurring "error 6". Nobody could explain why.
What do I do wrong? Do I have installed an outdated version of KPPP? What would be an updated, stable version?

Thanks for any comment, reply or help!

This project is unfortunately no longer maintained.

If a new maintainer wants to step up and take care, the project is archived here:

https://invent.kde.org/unmaintained/kppp

You can just clone it in your private namespace on invent.kde.org and if you have started to work on it and fixed/implemented something get it reviewed and the project unarchived.

Sorry for the inconveniences.
