Version: 0.12.3 (using KDE 3.5.5, compiled sources) Compiler: Target: i586-mandriva-linux-gnu OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.17-4mdv xxx sent you a wink which requires the latest version of Windows Live Messenger. To download the latest version of Windows Live Messenger, go to http://g.msn.com/5meen_us/122. Apparently there is really two bug: first, no support for "winks", and second, address to download Windows Live Messenger is wrong ("The page cannot be found") - though, it's possible, it's not Kopete's error but MSN's...
Kopete MSN plugin do not support winks and there is no plans to support it. First it is because of the technology. Winks are transferred in CAB format and it use Flash, two proprietary formats. Second is developer motivation. No developers want to implement this feature. Personally as the maintainer of next-gen Messenger plugin, I find this feature really annoying and I won't make effort to support it.

I tried to show a middle-aged Windows-using woman GAIM and told her that it is a good alternative to the MSN client which comes with Windows. "How do I send winks?", she said. "You can't," I told her. "Oh this program is all crap, I want winks". I agree that flash usage is very bad. But perhaps it would be possible to use swfdec http://swfdec.freedesktop.org/ for Wink support somehow? I use this to view flash in gecko-based browsers and it works great. Doesn't work with Konqueror 3.5.9, though. I don't know what CAB format is, if it is a proprietary format then that's very bad. But.. WINK support really IS ESSENTIAL for many users, and many will not even consider Kopete as a choice until or unless it gets wink support.
I think that it wouldn't be a problem to display flash files since kopete uses khtml
From http://www.kmess.org/screenshots/ : "We want to be sure that you can receive what your friends send to you. Therefore, we've added support to receive winks, nudges, custom emoticons and offline chat messages! You can also send nudges and custom emoticons, too. When something is not supported, KMess will inform you about this as well. So you might not be able to play 'Bejeweled' yet, but at least you can inform your friends about it." KMess supports winks (and quite a few other nice things specific to the MSN protocol). Could someone please look into what it would take to use/port wink-support +++ code from KMess to add such features to Kopete?
moving this wish to the WLM plugin
Hi there, sorry for the bad news, but WLM has been discontinued by Microsoft, so this bug will be closed. Thank you for helping us make KDE software even better for everyone!
