Description Mike Plemmons 2006-11-15 02:05:45 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.4)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

I would like to request a user configuration option to allow the listing of bookmarks to act like they do in Firefox. A long list of bookmarks.
Comment 1 Daniel Teske 2006-11-16 16:23:59 UTC
I'm not sure what you are asking for. Could you describe which feature of firefox's bookmark you are asking for?

You mean that incommoding scrolling first brought to you with the MS start menu? Oh please don't replace the current fly-out behavour with that. Fly-out menus are *much* faster to use. Imagine I'm looking for a bookmark/menu entry that is nearly at the end of that long long long scrolling list and it goes one entry by one entry by one entry down - scrolling menus drive people mad after a while.
Comment 8 Mike Plemmons 2007-02-10 16:21:24 UTC
My request is not for a replacement but an option to allow for the bookmarks to be viewed both ways. That way the user gets the choice of how they want the bookmarks to be shown.

I don't agree that there is a need for yet another preference.

If a *dropdown menu* can grow to contain hundrets of elements, there is something wrong in the design of the application and it should be solved in a way that prevents harm to users. Like to freeze the screen for several seconds when you want to select *another menu* and accidently mouse over the offender that is located *in between* other options and then *offering no space* to move the mouse out of it again! :) I mean, that is really the case! I don't know why anybody would want to switch on such a behaviour.

If you have more entries in the bookmarks than that would fit on screen in one column, you are anyway hardly going to find something without the help of the real time filter that is in the bookmarks sidebar.

PS: This is the original report of mine that was marked a duplicate of this report:

I have hundreds of bookmarks, most of them not sorted in folders. Because i prefer the bookmark sidebar with the real time filtering. But all the bookmarks are also in the bookmarks menu. Unfortunately, it always unrolls by accident when i want to user other menu functions.

Then the menu takes a long time, sometimes 2 seconds, to prepare and display. During this time, konq is not responding to anything. When the menu finally appears, it covers the whole screen, so it is also difficult to get rid of it, as i have to click somewhere outside to do so ...

I suggest the bookmark menu not having more than one column and to sort of pre-render it.

I totally understand what you mean. I would like to say that I entered the wish as nothing more than that, a wish. I tend to prefer the Firefox method of bookmarks but if it is found that it is not the right feature to implement for konq then that is cool.

I've always liked the scrolling menu over the multi-panel menu, I'd love to have that as an option too.
