Description Olaf Schubert 2006-11-14 22:38:45 UTC
Version:            (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from:    Ubuntu Packages
OS:                Linux

When attaching big files to an E-Mail, Kontact crashes after a short while. I encountered this bug when trying to attach several images with a total size of about 30MB.

I was able to reproduce the crash with these steps:
1) $ dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/bigFile count=50k
2) attach via drag&drop /tmp/bigFile to an empty message
Kontact takes some time (3-5 seconds) and then crashes.

The last message (when opening kontact inside a konsole) was:

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc'
  what():  St9bad_alloc

I guess I ran out of memory (though it'd be nice to get an error message instead of a crash :-) )

This might be related to the fact, that I (for some reason) don't have a swap-partition any more (which I just found out - maybe something related to my recent update to kubuntu edgy - which apparently converts some things in /etc/fstab).

I did not have any problems with the steps you've described.

I haven't them too in KDE 4.2+
