Description Henrik Lilljebjörn 2006-11-04 17:35:22 UTC
Version: 1.4.4 (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc-4.1.1
OS: Linux

I have used amarok successfully with the following setup:

Computer #1: Local mysql database. All music-files on local harddrive, mounted as /mythdata/mp3.

Computer #2: Uses the mysql database on computer #1. All music-files on remote NFS share (from computer #1) mounted as /mythdata/mp3.

This setup does not work any more, it seems the dynamic collection device-id confuses amarok. Computer #1 has no problem whatsoever. The problem is computer #2. After running the setup wizard on computer #2, all music-files are seen and have the correct score, but when trying to play them, amarok complains the filename is incorrect (amarok searches for the files on a completely different partition). If I restart amarok on computer #2, the collection is empty.

Expected behaviour: The Files and database from computer #1 should be usable on computer #2.

You can disable Amarok's dynamic collection by adding DynamicCollection=false to the [Collection] section of your amarokrc (on both computers), which will restore the pre-Dynamic Collection behaviour.

If you want to use Dynamic Collection, you can mount the NFS share on computer #1 using the same server name as on computer #2.

If you add the DynamicCollection=false, it erases your settings and you have to start over is there any way to fix that?

Mounting from a central NFS server doesn't work as expected either.

I have a central NFS server that computer 1 and computer 2 mount under the same path. If I update the collection on computer 1, the collection disappears from computer 2. If I update the collection on computer 2, the collection disappears from computer 1.

I'm running amarok 1.4.5-r1 on Gentoo.

look at #2
add

DynamicCollection=false

to the [collection] setting in ~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc

I did put DynamicCollection=false in the [collection] section of ~/.kde/share/config/amarokrc and it still did not work.

Removed my votes for this bug as I quit using Amarok a long time ago and KDE shortly afterwards for its bloat.
