Description Tim Hutt 2006-10-31 11:55:27 UTC
Version:            (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from:    Ubuntu Packages

Hi, here's what happened:

Start kmail.

Created 53MB file Archive.zip (I thought it would be smaller and didn't check).

Right-click file->actions->email file.

Choose recipient, write message, send.

KMail crashes.

Restart kmail->same crash. Before it crashes it manages to bring up the window and has 1 message (the 53MB one) in the outbox the message list and preview pane aren't drawn and the status bar says 'Initialising...', then it sigabrts with the following backtrace. It does this reliably, the same each time:

Using imap.

Shell says "terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc'"

Looks like it uses up all my memory (700MB) or something crazy. Surely it doesn't need that much to send a 50MB file? And it shouldn't crash anyway.

Can you reproduce the crash using other .zip files? Files of other types?

KMail has problems with large attachments, see bug #110574 or bug #59069.
