Description Egmont Koblinger 2006-10-13 13:33:04 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.5)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
OS: Linux

There are several problems with the auto-generated hungarian_expert lecture:

- Based on the last seven lessons it's not clear whether it wants to be a typing tutor or a spelling tutor. These lessons contain many words whose spelling is nontrivial. This wouldn't be a problem on it's own, but:

- The file contains many-many-many words that are spelled incorrectly, mostly in the last 7 levels, but also in some earlier ones. It also has some words that look like words and clearly the auto-generating software thought they had some meaning, but they don't. There are way too many misspelled words for them to be fixed with a reasonable amount of work.

- The content is not politically correct. For examples, it contains the name of one of the two big political parties in Hungary, but doesn't contain the name of the other big one. It contains the name of several profit-oriented companies, including amongs other several well-known car types (so you don't need to speak Hungarian to confirm this).

- The \ (backslash) is mentioned in the wrong level's NewCharacters field, not in which it is practiced.

So there are plenty errors in the file, it needs some major rework.

At this moment I don't send fixes since I don't have time for that I don't know how this file was auto-generated. Most likely the generating script needs to be fixed, not the generated file. Waiting for your kind ideas how these problems could be solved...

The training files that have been generated by the script uses a config file, telling the script which keys should be added for each level. Then it uses a file full of words to generate the training file. It will pick words from the list that contains only letters learned so far. In the beginning it will not be possible.. so then it will just make combinations of letters.

I don't know who made it, or what kind of data that where used. So please feel free to make a new one. A good way of getting hold of words it to get a dump from one of the aspell dictionaries. Or you can just write it by hand, avoiding any political message and such.

Dear Andrew, or a bot on your behalf,

You guys don't seem to have worked on this bug for 12 years now. Could you please elaborate, how would it help you if I verified this bug in a fresh version?

Are you absolutely definitely aiming to work on this finally?

Have you made changes that make it likely that the bug is already fixed?

If either of these two, let me know I'm happy to re-test.

Can I be sure that you're not just asking me to waste my time, and then still not work on this for many years coming?

Thanks a lot!
