Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.5) Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages OS: Linux With resoving Bug 108142 the behavior of alt+tab has changed and there is no config option to revert back to the old behavior -- that window borders would not be shown while useing alt+tab I really dont like the new behavior too much and having this feature configurable would be a blast. :) ...or may be I just didnt find the option from kcontrolcenter...

Adding my vote for this, it is indeed a very annoying feature. And let me nitpick a little: the original #108142 said "just like gnome does". Funny thing is that gnome didn't have a good nice window list on Alt-Tab for a long long time, and the ugly black border was a workaround for that (I guess it's called a "feature").
i guess KDE 4 will have a replacement for this black border, using composite, so this whole bugreport will be kind'a obsolete. still, i'd like to vote *against* removing the feature. having another option could be a solution, but why bother? it's a small feature, adds a little usability here and there (you know where the new window will 'pop up') and i don't get what's there not to like...
I personally don't mind having this feature as long as it's turned off :) To me it looks like this: without this feature I did just fine; with this feature I am annoyed by strange black rectangles every second time when use Alt-Tab, because I always have xchat and konsole running (these guys windows are not maximized). So this small feature makes thing worse and doesn't add any usability (why do I need to know where the window will pop up? I'll switch to it regardless of its location if I want to switch to it)
#3: Sure it might be removed in kde4, but that's a long time to wait for something that is annoying more than just a few users *now*. This non-removable "feature" is just counterintuitive, especially if the user already knows where a window is going to appear, or if the window in question is foregrounded and perfectly visible. From reading the bug reports that resulted in these borders being added, it appears that approximately 4 users took the time to file bugs in their favour. This, in my opinion, does not constitute grounds to add a non-configurable feature that affects all users.
