Description vatbier 2006-09-28 22:18:29 UTC
Version: 0.9.2 (using KDE KDE 3.5.4)
Installed from: Mandriva RPMs
OS: Linux

KMplayer should disable screensaver/display power management when viewing long pieces of video. It's very annoying that when I'm watching a movie the screen goes blank after 15 minutes.

Not directly I may hope. This topic was already discussed some time ago. KMPlayer does request a screensaver stop by KDesktop, only that doesn't help for the dpms (which of course should have, so there is the bug actually).
There is now this 'xdg-screensaver' command which you can use.
Maybe I add that to KMPlayer as well, but have to find out what KDE4 w/ dbus is able to do wrt screensaver settings first.

What about kmplayer "pressing a key" to get around this issue until it is fixed properly.
Comment 3 Stephan Sokolow 2007-05-20 14:46:55 UTC
Don't forget to re-enable the screensaver when the user pauses and then disable it again when they un-pause.

As I understand it, plasma-based flat-panel screens are susceptible to burn-in. So, like in $50 DVD players, pause should enable the screensaver.

I don't use KMplayer anymore and I'm too busy preparing for Christmas to go out of my way to comply with a "test this now or have it WORKSFORME'd" ultimatum, so let KMplayer bit-rot, I guess.
