Description Philipp Sternberg 2006-09-25 00:39:24 UTC
Version: 1.0.2 (KOffice 1.5.2) (using KDE 3.5.4, Debian Package 4:3.5.4-3 (testing/unstable))
Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.17y

Hi folks

as already said my kexi freezes when I click the "Test Connection" in the "Add New Database Connection"-dialog or "Edit Database Connection"-dialog button the second time.
alright, i can reproduce this bug in different ways, here they are:

1. start kexi
2. invoke the "Add New / Edit Database Connection"-dialog by doing one of the 2.x steps below
2a. choose "Blank Database" in the "Choose Project"-dialog at the start of
kexi, click "Ok" then choose "New Project Stored on Database Server", click "Next" and then click "Add" or choose a connection from the list and click "Edit".
2b. choose "Import Exisitng Databse" in the "Choose Project"-dialog at the start of
kexi, click "Ok" then click Next and than, click "Projects stored on a server" and click "Add" or choose a connection from the list and click "Edit".
2c.choose "Import Exisitng Databse" in the "Choose Project"-dialog at the start of
kexi, click "Ok" then click "Next", click "Projects stored in a file", choose a file, click "Next", choose either "MySQL" or "PostgreSQL" as Destination databse type, click "Next" twice and finally click "Add" or choose a connection from the list and click "Edit".

Now you get the "Add New Database Connection"-dialog or "Edit Database Connection"-dialog.

-> Choose either "MySQL" or "PostgreSQL"
-> enter a host or choose localhost
-> enter a port number or choose standard port
-> enter a username or don't do it, it doesn't matter
-> enter a password or let it remain empty, it doesn't matter either
-> tick "Save password in the shortcut file" or untick it, no matter
-> enter, title (as the label sais, it's optional)
-> in the Details-tab tick or untick the use socket file instead of TCP/IP port
-> choose a socket or tick default
-> go back to the Parameters-Tab and cilck"Test Connection"......
a message box may pop up saying "Could not connect to xyz database server" (I haven't managed to connect to a server yet....). Confirm by clicking "Ok"
->Change the settings in the parameters-tab and or details-tab or keep them unchanged.
->cilck"Test Connection" again.....
Again a box pops up telling you whatever, confirm wit "Ok" and kexi freezes.

By the way is such a bug considered as a crash or as a "normal" bug?

It may be that this is a duplicate of Bug 124959, however in that bug the freeze only occurs when the username and password are the same.

Thanks for the report. The source of the problem still needs to be located.
