Description Jerry Kiely 2006-09-03 11:56:15 UTC
Version:            (using KDE KDE 3.5.4)
Installed from:    Compiled From Sources
Compiler: gcc (GCC) 4.1.1 (Gentoo 4.1.1)

OS:                Linux

Steps to reproduce;

1) log in as root
2) startx (starting a kde session)
3) end kde session
4) all partitions unmounted, / partition mounted readonly.

kded media manager is responsible. I know this because if I try to stop the service in control center, I get popups telling me the config file can't be written to, because the file system is mounted readonly (i.e. same as above, except while kde is running).

The machine is an old Dell Inspiron 5100. The HD is /dev/hdc (secondary master). I wonder if this has anything to do with it. i.e. is the media manager trying to unmount all mounted removable media on exit, and is mistakenly assuming /dev/hdc (and all partitions on it are) is removable media.

Thanks,

J.K.

I forgot to mention the following;

if I log in as root, run startx, opened up KDE's 'Control Center', went to 'KDE Components -> Service Manager', unchecked the checkbox beside 'KDED Media Manager', pressed Apply, Ctrl-Alt-Backspaced out of the X session, ran startx again into KDE, ended the session, problem gone!
