Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.2) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages OS: Linux When attempting to configure my (US Robotics USR5610B) internal PCI modem in kppp, no modem can be found. I know that the modem is at "dev/tty/s4" because that is where it is when using the Gnome desktops. Clicking the "query modem" button results in the error message: "unable to open modem". I also tried all the other choices for modem location from the drop down menu with the same result. This must be strictly a KDE problem: I get the same results on 2 systems: 1-AMD Athlon 64 on a Gigabyte GA-k8vm800m mother board, and 2- AMD Sempron 64 on a Shuttle FN85 mother board. I have tried the KDE versions of SUSE 10.1, Knoppix 4.02, and Kubuntu 6.06 LTS with the same results. When using Windows XP SP2 the modem is automatically recognized. When using the Gnome desktops of Ubuntu 6.06 LTS, Fedora 5 core, and SUSE 10.1 - I can easily configure the modem manually. Also when SUSE 10.1 with KDE is installing, it will successfully test the modem as part of the installation. But once the installation is complete, it can no longer find it. The modem is listed in in the KInfoCenter under "PCI", but Kppp can't find it at all.
Have you tried "/dev/tty/s4" instead of "dev/tty/s4"?
"dev/tty/s4" is my typing mistake. I am sorry for the error. "/dev/tty/s4" is what I selected from the drop down menu. There is no option to input a location manually in the kPPP configuration new modem dialog box. --- Andreas Kling <kling@impul.se> wrote: [bugs.kde.org quoted mail] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- > CC| > |kling impul se > > > > ------- Additional Comments From kling impul se > 2006-09-01 13:50 ------- > Have you tried "/dev/tty/s4" instead of > "dev/tty/s4"? > __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
