Version: 0.19 #3100 (using KDE 3.5.2, Gentoo) Compiler: gcc version 3.4.5 (Gentoo 3.4.5-r1, ssp-3.4.5-1.0, pie-8.7.9) OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.16-gentoo-r9-20060701 In it's current form, the channel topic is almost impossible to scroll. (or at least, very un-intuitive) In addition, rather than displaying the entire topic, it ends in ellipses after a small amount of scrolling.
Hm, the topic widget is actually designed not to scroll at all (whether that should be changed is a matter of discussion) - how do you get it to scroll to begin with, if I may ask?
Find a channel where it didn't truncate the topic properly, click on a non-hyperlink, and drag to the right. It's a side effect of how the widget handles text selection.
Ah, good catch.
Oh, in response to the "(whether that should be changed is a matter of discussion)" in comment #1, I suggest either showing the full topic in a tooltip, or doing it X-Chat style using a read-only textbox.
Oh, never mind. Just some weird KDE/Qt/X11 bug that was preventing the full-topic tooltip from appearing.
I do not have this problem with konversation 1.2 alpha 3 on kde 4.2.4 on debian sid Recomend that this bug is closed unless other people still have this problem
The problem is that reproducing it hinges on "Find a channel where it didn't truncate the topic properly", which I unfortunately don't remember the details of anymore. Stephan, could you re-educate us please?
I think it was actually #konversation where I originally encountered the problem. Unfortunately, I've been using X-Chat lately (recent work has rendered a proper plugin API non-optional) so I can't just say "Here's a topic that demonstrates it right now".
In KDE SC 4.3.90 I can not scroll channel topics but a tooltip appears. Should this bug be closed?
The UI design was exactly the same it is now at the time the bug was reported, too - the scrolling referred to here was an edge case bug. Anyway, since we don't have enough info to reproduce it anymore, the reporter isn't willing to provide it and the toolkit and widget used have changed considerably in the meantime, I'd say closing this as NEEDSINFO is in order, indeed. Thanks.
It's not that I'm unwilling to provide the information, it's that I have no idea how to reproduce it with current Konversation and it's not feasible for me to just use Konversation until I either stumble across it again or decide it's gone. We'll just have to assume it's fixed.
Closing correctly.
