Description Stephan Sokolow 2006-08-04 09:17:16 UTC
Version: 1.9.1 (using KDE KDE 3.5.2)
Compiler: gcc (GCC) 3.4.5 (Gentoo 3.4.5-r1, ssp-3.4.5-1.0, pie-8.7.9)
OS: Linux

It seems that KMail will have trouble remembering SMTP passwords if there are no incoming mail accounts.

For example, if you use GMail and prefer the web interface but want something to handle mailto: links.

Could you please give us a few more details? Unless you store the SMTP password in the configuration or in KWallet you'll have to re-enter it each time you try to send something. The reason for this is that KMail does not keep the SMTP password in memory. (For incoming accounts KMail works differently and keeps the passwords in memory.)

I'm pretty sure the password was stored in the configuration because it is now and I don't remember changing anything in the "sending" tab when I switched to using GMail's POP3 and SMTP stopped forgetting my password.

I think this is fixed in KDE4 after switching to mailtransport for sending mails.
