Description Arne Schmitz 2006-08-02 10:12:42 UTC
Version: 1.9.1 (using KDE 3.5.2, Debian Package 4:3.5.2-2 (testing/unstable))
Compiler: Target: x86_64-linux-gnu
OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.12-1-amd64-k8

On IMAP accounts one can set per-folder identities, e.g. for usage with mailing lists. However KMail forgets this setting in between sessions. I always get the default identity after a new login.
Comment 1 Ingo Klöcker 2006-08-02 10:19:37 UTC
Please try whether exiting KMail before logging out of KDE helps.

Yes, if I close KMail and restart it, it still has this information.

More information: KMail forgets this setting from time to time. But i do not know when exactly...
Comment 4 Arne Schmitz 2006-10-19 10:51:19 UTC
Is something done about this? KMail still forgets constantly the sender identity.
Comment 5 Arne Schmitz 2006-11-08 16:03:10 UTC
Anything new here? Maybe it helps if I tell you that my home lies on an NFS share? At home, with a KMail profile on a local harddrive, I never had this problem.
Comment 6 Jan Binder 2009-02-03 02:08:57 UTC
Still here in KMail 1.11.0, KDE 4.2, Debian Unstable.
Appears when using Disconnected IMAP. Worked in Kmail 1.9.9.
Comment 7 Frank Niethardt 2009-06-04 23:09:22 UTC
Still there KMail 1.11.4, KDE 4.2.4 archlinux, kdemod
2 different dIMAP accounts on inbox folders

but works on a 3rd dIMAP account in a folder different than inbox
Comment 8 Kumaran Santhanam 2009-09-04 01:56:11 UTC
This still happens in Kontact 4.3.0 / KMail 1.12.0.
In my case, the identity selection never works, even within the same session.

Has anybody else experienced this behavior?
Comment 9 Brice Hunt 2009-10-26 23:25:13 UTC
I experience the same bug in KMail 1.12.2 (KDE 4.3.2) in Debian Unstable (Sid). Since I have only one IMAP account, I set my corresponding Identity for that account as default and tell all IMAP folders to use the default account.
Comment 10 nemosoft 2010-03-31 23:45:29 UTC
I hit this bug in KDE 4.4.1 (compiled from source, OS is Slackware 13.0); odd thing is that in KDE 4.2.4 this bug didn't seem to occur. The original settings where migrated from KDE 3, BTW.

I managed to get it working again by creating a new dummy Identity, then set the identity I want per folder as it used to do; Kontakt/KMail then finally seems to remember the link between the two.

related, older bug 120089.

NFS here too, though i don't think it's related.

This still happens in KDEPIM 4.7.0 (tested on Gentoo).
Comment 14 Juha Tuomala 2011-08-30 14:36:59 UTC
Still happens with Fedora:
Name : kdepim Relocations: (not relocatable)
Version : 4.4.11.1 Vendor: Fedora Project

This bug still persists on KDE 4.8.5 …it is pretty annoying.

Although I seem to have this issue with my Kolab account more then with my RoundCube account.
Comment 17 Laurent Montel 2012-10-03 06:48:33 UTC
4.8.5 is outdated.
update to 4.9.2
I fixed some bugs about it.
Reopen if necessary
Comment 18 Thomas Baumgart 2012-10-26 10:55:58 UTC
Still see this problem in 4.9.2. I noticed, that the line containing the Identity for the respective folder in kmail2rc disappears when KMail is closed. After further investigation I noticed that this happens when the resp. folder is selected and nothing else is done. Test I performed to duplicate the problem:

a) setup correct Identity for the folder in question using your favorite editor in kmail2rc
b) fire-up Kontact (a different folder is selected by default)
c) select the folder in question
d) exit Kontact
e) Look at kmail2rc to verify that the Identity is gone

In case you omit c) in the above, the setting remains OK in kmail2rc. Hopefully, this helps someone to nail this problem down. I am doing this on a system with 2 INBOXes on two different servers using disconnected IMAP in case this is important.
An interesting aside is, that if you look at the folder properties after c) has been done, the setting is OK in the dialog but in case you cancel and exit the setting is gone in the rc file.
Comment 19 Matija Šuklje 2012-11-30 16:01:34 UTC
Tested on 4.9.3 and it still exists.
Comment 20 Dmitry Roshchin 2013-01-05 14:54:22 UTC
I have 2 profiles with same email addresses, but different language settings: Russian and English (my name, spellcheck dictionary, templates). If incoming mail was addressed to this address, kmail ignores folder settings and uses default profile. But if it was addressed to another address (for example mail list), folder settings work normally.
Comment 21 E. Hakan Duran 2015-02-08 05:16:16 UTC
I confirm that this bug still exists in Kmail 4.14.3.
Comment 22 Jan Binder 2016-04-25 09:32:07 UTC
Still here in KMail 5.1.1.
Comment 23 Juha Tuomala 2016-09-23 09:29:39 UTC
This kind of bugs are the reason why I stopped reporting anything. Just waste of time. Opened 2006-08-02 and still going strong at 2016-09-23. This has caused my addresses to leak to people who shouldn't know / use those addresses.
Comment 24 Denis Kurz 2017-01-14 13:34:12 UTC
I used the exact steps described in Comment 18 in KMail 5.4.1. I was unable to reproduce the issue.

Can anyone please confirm that this is still broken? Ideally, they would provide steps to reproduce it in a recent version.

Seems to be fixed in 5.7.3
Comment 27 Thomas Baumgart 2018-09-27 08:11:28 UTC
I am unable to duplicate the problem according to my instructions in comment 18 in KMail 5.5.2. Seems to be fixed.
Comment 28 Christophe Marin 2018-09-27 08:19:24 UTC
Thanks for the feedback.
Comment 29 Juha Tuomala 2018-11-12 14:18:51 UTC
I still see this problem. This is KMail version 5.9.2 on Fedora 28.

   kmail-18.08.2-0.1.fc28.x86_64

I open some inbox 'Properties' with RMB and in General tab, there is 'Use defailt identity' checked that makes every message start with wrong identity. If I uncheck it, it will be there again at next startup.

I think the main problem is that Kmail stores part of the configuration into Akonadi, not into configuration files where it should be and Akonadi is broken.
