Description Stephan Sokolow 2006-07-31 09:52:02 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.2)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
Compiler: gcc (GCC) 3.4.5 (Gentoo 3.4.5-r1, ssp-3.4.5-1.0, pie-8.7.9)
OS: Linux

As the short description says, The KDE Hotkey daemon has a tendency to stop capturing hotkeys, requiring a disable/enable cycle in KControl to fix it.
Comment 1 Lubos Lunak 2006-07-31 10:41:28 UTC
I've never seen this. Is it reproducible? What are the symptoms, how should I reproduce?
Comment 2 Stephan Sokolow 2006-07-31 10:47:55 UTC
I'm still trying to find a way to reliably reproduce it. As it is, hotkeys just stop working every now and then.

When that happens, I have to enable "Disable KDE Hotkey Daemon" in the KControl module, click Apply, and then disable it again... or log out and log in, but that's overkill.
Comment 3 Johannes Loehnert 2006-09-15 09:31:37 UTC
I have the opposite behaviour on kubuntu-5.10, kde-3.4.3, khotkeys-2.1: I had a binding for XF86AudioVolumeUp that I (not sure about that) assigned with lineak. Recently I removed lineak and reassigned the key to another command using the KHotKey control module. But the old binding is remembered, so after reboot the key triggers old and new binding simultaneously. When I disable/enable khotkeys, the old binding is gone and it works as I want it.

"As the short description says, The KDE Hotkey daemon has a tendency to stop capturing hotkeys, requiring a disable/enable cycle in KControl to fix it"

same behaviour here... I can't find a way to reproduce it

I just switched to KDE 4.2. Same problem... but my sessions sometimes start out with khotkeys dead rather than having it die after a random amount of use. It can still be revived by an "uncheck, apply, check, apply" cycle of the "Start the khotkeys daemon on logon" option.

Dear Bug Submitter,

This bug has been stagnant for a long time. Could you help us out and re-test if the bug is valid in the latest version? I am setting the status to NEEDSINFO pending your response, please change the Status back to REPORTED when you respond.

Thank you for helping us make KDE software even better for everyone!
Comment 7 Stephan Sokolow 2018-11-02 04:38:35 UTC
I haven't been experiencing this, but I'm still on KDE 4.x (Kubuntu 14.04 LTS), so I can't say whether it's regressed in KDE 5.

Should I just close this and file a new bug if it shows up again when I upgrade?

That sounds like a good plan. Thanks for the update!
