Description Michael Greifeneder 2006-07-21 11:17:34 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.2)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

Hello, i know it may not appropiate to report this to usabillity, but I haven't found a better addresss. Maybe someone knows to whom to address this.

Here is my problem.

When I'm working on my laptop sometimes I have no network connection, because I'm in a train or in the country.

I wish that I would have an systray icon where I can enable a global offline mode, because

Kontact (kmail, akregator, korganizer) wouldn't try to connect to POP/IMAP/Web servers even if should do it by default.
Kopete wouldn't connect to all IM servers and show various "cannot connect" messages
Amarok wouldn't try to load lyrics and wikipedia information and submit to last.fm
Konquerer would use cached websites.
Konversation wouldn't try to connect.

Maybe KDE could try to ping a certain server during startup and decide by itself whether there is a connection or not...

A worthy endeavor, but why is this bug registered to kchart? That application is already possible to run totally off-line. :-)

Sorry, it's my fault. Wrong product. How can I change the attribute "product" for this bug? Haven't found any option. It looks like I have to close this bug and create a new one...

You have to have a svn commit account to do that. Just tell me which product you want it for, and I can do it for you.
Comment 4 Michael Greifeneder 2006-07-29 16:09:20 UTC
Can you change it to "kde - General KDE Problem" or "kde/general"? That's probably most accurate for this issue.

done
Comment 6 Christian Banik 2007-02-03 18:08:59 UTC
I second this bug. It should be one of the core features in KDE 4.

This bug is also connected to bugs #138759 (Knetworkmanager), #69281 (Kontact), #114920 (kaddressbook).
