Very weird bug.
that is why I asked in the gentoo forum if anybody else has the same experience before opening it. weird indeed - I am using konqueror for years, and this site is the first I ever visited showing this behaviour.
Confirm bug with KDE 3.5.3 emerge --info: Portage 2.1.1_pre4-r1 (default-linux/x86/2006.0, gcc-4.1.1, glibc-2.4-r3, 2.6.17-gentoo-r4 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.17-gentoo-r4 i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2800+ Gentoo Base System version 1.12.2 ccache version 2.3 [enabled] app-admin/eselect-compiler: [Not Present] dev-lang/python: 2.4.3-r1 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r5 dev-util/ccache: 2.3 dev-util/confcache: [Not Present] sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.17 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.17 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.3.13-r3 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /etc/conf.d /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/X11/xkb /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/gconf /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/terminfo" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig ccache distlocks metadata-transfer sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://gentoo.chem.wisc.edu/gentoo/ http://prometheus.cs.wmich.edu/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --delete-after --stats --timeout=180 --exclude='/distfiles' --exclude='/local' --exclude='/packages'" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage/refugee /usr/portage/local/layman/sunrise" SYNC="rsync://rsync.namerica.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X alsa apache2 apm avi berkdb bitmap-fonts bzip2 cdr cli crypt cups dlloader dri dvd eds emboss encode foomaticdb gdbm gif gpm gstreamer gtk2 hal ieee1394 imlib ipv6 isdnlog jpeg kde kdeenablefinal kdehiddenvisibility lcms libg++ libwww logitech-mouse mad mikmod motif mp3 mpeg ncurses nls nptl nptlonly ogg opengl pam pcre pdflib perl png pppd python qt qt3 qt4 quicktime readline reflection sdl session spell spl ssl tcpd tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts udev unicode vorbis xml xorg xv zlib elibc_glibc input_devices_keyboard input_devices_mouse kernel_linux userland_GNU video_cards_radeon" Unset: CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, INSTALL_MASK, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS
Hi, I updated to 3.5.4 http://today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=oddlyEnoughNews&storyID=2006-07-05T180919Z_01_L04727574_RTRUKOC_0_US-GERMANY-BALLS.xml works correctly now, but: http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=inDepthNews&storyid=2006-08-03T121748Z_01_SEO142623_RTRUKOC_0_US-KOREA-DEFECTORS.xml&WTmodLoc=NewsArt-R2-Today-9 shows that strange behaviour.
Problem seems to still exist in 3.5.4 http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=oddlyEnoughNews&storyID=2006-08-30T123842Z_01_N29230107_RTRUKOC_0_US-LIFE-VIDEO-1.xml&archived=False Portage 2.1-r2 (default-linux/amd64/2006.0, gcc-3.4.6, glibc-2.3.6-r4, 2.6.17-gentoo-r4a x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.17-gentoo-r4a x86_64 AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3200+ Gentoo Base System version 1.12.4 distcc 2.18.3 x86_64-pc-linux-gnu (protocols 1 and 2) (default port 3632) [disabled] ccache version 2.3 [enabled] app-admin/eselect-compiler: [Not Present] dev-lang/python: 2.3.5-r2, 2.4.3-r1 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r5 dev-util/ccache: 2.3 dev-util/confcache: [Not Present] sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.17 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.3.13-r3 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -mtune=athlon64 -pipe -O2 -frename-registers -fweb -mfpmath=sse -ftracer -funit-at-a-time " CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/X11/xkb /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/env.d /etc/gconf /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/splash /etc/terminfo" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon64 -mtune=athlon64 -pipe -O2 -frename-registers -fweb -mfpmath=sse -ftracer -funit-at-a-time " DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS="--alphabetical" FEATURES="autoconfig ccache distlocks metadata-transfer sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://mirror.datapipe.net/gentoo http://open-systems.ufl.edu/mirrors/gentoo ftp://gentoo.mirrors.pair.com/" MAKEOPTS="-j1" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --delete-after --stats --timeout=180 --exclude='/distfiles' --exclude='/local' --exclude='/packages'" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage /usr/local/overlays/vlos" SYNC="rsync://rsync.namerica.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="amd64 X alsa arts berkdb bitmap-fonts cdr cli crypt cups dba dlloader dri dvd eds emboss encode ffmpeg font-server foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 imlib ipv6 isdnlog java jpeg kde kdeenablefinal lm_sensors lzw lzw-tiff mozilla moznomail mp3 mpeg mysql ncurses nls nptl nptlonly oggvorbis opengl oss pam pcre pdflib perl png ppds pppd python qt qt3 qt4 quicktime readline reflection samba sdl session slp spell spl ssl subversion tcpd tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts unicode usb wmf xine xmms xorg xpm xv zlib elibc_glibc input_devices_keyboard input_devices_mouse kernel_linux userland_GNU video_cards_fglrx video_cards_vga video_cards_vesa" Unset: CTARGET, INSTALL_MASK, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS
It seems that if I change browser identification to Safari 2.0 on Mac OS X, Reuters seems to behave properly. I've had to do this on many sites to get them to work properly. I suggest Konqueror's name be changed to Safari, sites seem to know of it, but the rest of the world does not know Konqueror. Doing so would save us users a lot of grief. George
Nevermind, it was just a fluke, I give up. George
Here is a great idea, add a feature that we can add domains to (a list like browser identification) that will cause the site to be viewed in an "Alternate Browser" like Firefox. Great for problems where konqueror just cannot do the job. Or better still add the Gecko engine as an alternate choice to KHTML. I still prefer Konqueror as my default browser, but dudes, it's more like work than play to use it anymore. George
Hi, I just updated to 3.5.5 and I can't reproduce the bug anymore (well, I stopped using xgl sometime ago, but..) I think that If the others who hit the bug too, don't see it with 3.5.5 anymore too, it could be closed..
closing on request. works fine with 3.5.7
