Description Andrew Mason 2006-07-04 01:36:35 UTC
Version: 1.4.0 (using KDE KDE 3.5.3)
Installed from: Slackware Packages
Compiler: gcc 3.4.6
OS: Linux

This may be a long shot as you probably need an MTP device to hack on this, but I would like to request MTP (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Media_Transfer_Protocol) device support with Amarok.

Basically devices like the creative, newer iRivers (h10, and t series), samsung etc..use MTP to transmit files to the device. Currently there is a python CLI application called easyH10 (easyh10.sourceforge.net) for the iRiver applications and gnomad (http://gnomad2.sourceforge.net/) which support various devices but none of them integrate into a media player such as amarok, which makes it hard to get people using kde specifically (i think the gtk banschee application now has mtp support in cvs). Linux MTP support can be done via http://libmtp.sourceforge.net/ as far as I know.

I have no expectations about this wish. I know amarok is pretty flexible and can use python (for which transfer code currently exists) so I was hoping it may just be a case of adding a python plugin.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this request. Let me know if I can assist in anyway should you decide to have a crack at this. I can't send you an MTP device unfortunately as the only one i can use is my g/f but i would be more than happy to chip in to buy one should other people think this is useful.
