I don't agree. The message preview pane should get the focus.

Could you give any reason for such behavior?

The quick-search pane is hidden, then you show it up and then you want to browse the mail? I don't see any logic in this.

When I want to show the quick-search pane, I want to... search. So I want to be able to type the search phrase.

Ok, if there are more people who turn the quick-search pane just to view the mail (???) please add appropriate option:
[ ] activate quick-search pane after showing it up

Because I misread the Summary. I understood you wanted "after KMail showing p, the quick search edit-box should get focus", instead of "after the quick search showed up, the edit box should get focus".

Yes, you're right: if you've just turned Quick-Search on, you want to type something in it.

The quick search can't be shown/hidden anymore in KDE 4.2 or later.
