I'm having the same issue
Using Linux version 2.6.20-16-generic (gcc version 4.1.2 (Ubuntu 4.1.2-0ubuntu4)

Unhide SSID, connects fine.

This is a driver issue, several versions of the intel drivers (iwl* especially) have had problems with hidden essids.
