Description James 2006-05-07 13:27:32 UTC
Version: 0.11.1 (using KDE KDE 3.5.2)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux

When logging into Jabber servers that have a pre-populated contact list when the groups on that contact list are created and the users moved into the right groups kopete does not save that information. When I close down kopete and restart it the groups information is not saved. When using GAIM this problem does not exist.

If I login to a jabber server with a not pre-populated contact list the problem does not exist.

To give more information, when I connect to any jabber server that has a prepopulated contact list for the server (eg all employees of company a) the contact list is not put into a group, all of the users are outside of folders. Once I then move all of those contacts into their own folders for each department or whatever then quit kopete It will reload with all the groups outside of the folder strucutre that had previously been setup.

In previous versions I thought there was a save contact list button but it appears to have been removed.

Kopete try to keep in sync with server.
Comment 3 James 2006-06-14 16:01:49 UTC
The kopete should be able to keep in syncronisation with the jabber list from the server. However if we have groups and folders configured and saved when we exit those settings should be maintained after restarting kopete rather than having to reconfigure them each time you start.

I have a similar problem:
I chose to rearrange my contacts in Kopete, and created several groups (e.g. university, friends, ..). After that I moved contacts to one of the new groups. This somehow didn't work for Jabber contacts. My ICQ and MSN contacts will stay in that group - the jabber contacts are in "(Unknown Group)" after i restarted kopete.

I can confirm this behavior. Observed with Kopete 1.0.80 under KDE 4.5.1 (Kubuntu 10.10) and the StudiVZ (German Facebook clone) xmmp protocol (also seems to be prepopulated).

I could observe that even metacontacts that included multiple accounts (e.g. icq, jabber) forgot which group they were in after adding the StudVZ xmmp contact.
This behaviour is pretty much the same as in Bug 226548, where it is reported for Facebook.

Is there any progress on this?
I'm willing to write and send a patch if someone knows best approach for solving this. Remember I've read a thread on similar issue (probably duplicate) some time ago. Would adding a "Ignore server assigned groups" flag to Jabber plugin work? It would probably solve this problem...

Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
