Version:           1.9.1 (using KDE 3.5.2, Kubuntu Package 4:3.5.2-0ubuntu12 dapper)
Compiler:          Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.15-21-686

This happens since kde 3.5.2 I think. The up and down buttons in the outgoing accounts form were replaced with just one "default" button. However, quite often instead of the default being used, kmail still used the first in the list!

Can you please provide some details as to when this would happen?

The code specifically checks for the default at send time and unless you specified another one in your identity settings that default should be used, I would need some more details to debug this further
