Looks like your message index is corrupt. Could you move the index for that folder to somewhere else and try?
I rebuilded the whole kmail config and imported the old mails (but I haven't been able to re-import the filter :'( Anyway it seems fixed now, but I have got see an other crash (see next attachement). It was while deleting ~1400 mail from inbox to trash, and it crashed around 400mails left. I join the crash report as attachement.

Again, it looks like the same problem emerged. You do not need to recreate the configuration etc. Just find the folder that causes the crash. Depending on what type of account it is in ( imap, disconnected imap, local etc ), you can find the corresponding index file for that folder in one of the directories under ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/ . The following command might help: find ~/.kde/share/apps/kmail/ -iname ".name_of_folder.index*" Now move these files to somewhere else, and see whether it still crashes. kmail keeps on crashing, even with removing all index and index.ids files!
I tried kmail (with kde 3.5.4) with a new user account and setup stuff from scratch. It worked perfectly. No crash whatsoever.
err i meant kde 3.5.3

I can confirm this behaviour with Kmail/Kontact on KDE3.5.4 running on Gentoo. As soon as I start typing anything into the search bar Kontact closes and I get the crash handler. I have tried the rebuild cache option on the right click menu to no avail. Regards, Mark Dickie
Are you guys using full text indexing by any chance? Look in your KMail Settings in the Misc tab. Please do NOT use full text indexing, it is an experimental feature that should not have been compiled in by the package distributors.
I'm not using full text indexing. I used to get this bug but I can confirm that my message store must have been corrupt as after deleting the dimap folder ad getting mail again everything is now fine. This appears to have been a non bug to me.

KMail crash if I search with the search function and try to move the found emails to the recycle bin. Two backtraces could be found in Bug 143900.
is it still valid on mandriva 2010.0 rpms ? --- Nicolas Lécureuil Mandriva KDE Team
