Version: 1.5.0 (using KDE KDE 3.5.1) Installed from: Fedora RPMs When browsing the Applications->Office in GNOME 2.14, sometimes tooltips show you information about the program. However, there are errors preventing the proper display with some KDE programs. **Bug details for this bug report: krita: missing Comment=; suggestion: "Edit and paint images" **Bug details for other bug reports (not all yet filed): karbon: missing Comment=; suggestion: "Draw graphics by hand" [bug 125004] kchart: missing Comment=;suggestion: "Create graphics and charts" [bug 125006] kexi: missing Comment=; kformula: missing comment="Edit mathematical formulas" [bug 125005] kivio: missing Comment=; suggestion: "Edit flowcharts and diagrams" [bug 125007] kplato: missing Comment=; suggestion: "Management projects" [bug 125008] kpresenter: missing Comment=; suggestion: "Create presentations" [bug 125009] kspread: missing Comment=; suggestion: "Calculate, analyze, and present data" kugar: missing Comment=; suggestion: "Generate reports" kword: missing Comment=; suggestion: "Write text documents" korganizer: Comment= should be GenericName=; suggestion: "Schedule appointments, meetings, etc." as new Comment= **References: http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/latest/ar01s04.html http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=121580 **System: Fedora Core 5 koffice 1.5.0 from vendor "Fedora Project" kdepim 3.5.1 from vendor "Red Hat, Inc"
Fixed according to suggestion in 1.5, 1.6 and 2.0
You have a point that koffice's .desktop files should have some form of Comment. I don't think Comment should take over what is currently used for GenericName, however. Note the "should not be redundant" part of: http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/latest/ar01s04.html which says: GenericName: Generic name of the application, for example "Web Browser". Comment: Tooltip for the entry, for example "View sites on the Internet", should not be redundant with Name or GenericName.
Rex: Yes, for my suggestions I tried to follow the pattern at freedesktop.org where GenericName is noun-oriented (a "what") and Comment is verb oriented (a "do").
Missing Comment is not a bug.
I added them for Krita anyways.
