Description Stephan Johach 2006-04-02 13:29:49 UTC
Version: (using KDE Devel)
Installed from: Compiled sources
Compiler: gcc 3.3.3
OS: Linux

A german KDE user pointed out that the userguide chapter about groupware and kontact has some personal opinions in it he found irritating. I think he's right. This is IMHO not appropriate for the KDE userguide. An example:

"But that can cause initial setup troubles. For a newbie like me it means: a
long long frustrating nightmare, and too much complexity to manage once
working. So no, thanks, I'll go to simple <acronym>IMAP</acronym>."

Furthermore the author sometimes uses the first person singular.

There's also at least one distribution specific part:

"# <userinput><command>apt-get</command> <command>install</command>
cyrus21-imapd cyrus21-common cyrus21-admin cyrus21-client sasl-bin
sasl2-bin</userinput> \n
<computeroutput>Installing cyrus21-imapd...</computeroutput><lineannotation>
The installer asks something I've not understood about an search address... I
just pressed <keycap>Enter</keycap></lineannotation>."

These instructions are useless and irritating for users of other distributions which do do not use Debian.

I suggest to rework this chapter a bit.

ergh, you're right, the entire chapter reads more like a blog than KDE documentation :(
Comment 2 Jes Hall 2006-05-26 01:16:51 UTC
I recall proofreading this for Lauri, I assume she had a reason for including it.
Comment 3 Lauri Watts 2006-06-05 11:28:04 UTC
It was included at the insistence of the author and the kontact developers, because once you get through the writing, the content is reasonably ok.

I am not the author, other than I marked it up (and removed a fair bit of the personal opinion stuff already.)

As with the rest of the documentation, feel entirely free to help fix it.
