Description p 2006-03-29 05:43:08 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.1)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

Hi,

the menu editor doesn't save all changes. Sometimes it does save the changes, sometime only a few, sometimes none. I have no idea how to reproduce the problem (but it occurs often) and I don't know how to create a log file or what ever. If someone could advise what to do I am happy to help finding the reason.

REgards,
Jochen

I have the same problem since kde 3.5.2-40 Suse RPM. I can´t make any changes in K-Menue.

Just updated to KDE 3.5.4, menu editor is still 0.7. Same problem.

@Waldo or anyone who can give an update: No answer after almost half a year. Is there still someone developing? Are you interested in feedback? If not please write a remark in the "about" text of the application. (sorry)

@ everyone else: keep on voting for this bug (or use MS Windows here basic features like menu editing works fine ;-))

don't know either but if we still have it with the latest KDE I wouldn't call it "fixed". The main point is that the behavior is really unstable. Sometime I can add an entry sometimes I can't. Start changing your menu heavily and see if ALL changes are applied. I can reproduce the error in about 2 - 3 tries, now probably even everytime. I found a directory where so far NO item is displayed in the menu.

No it is not fixed.

Sorry, I'm no longer involved in the development of kmenuedit. Changes are stored in
~/.config/menus/applications-kmenuedit.menu so if you look at that file you might be able to find out what is going wrong.

Waldo,

thanks for the update.

Anyone who reads this,

is there a way to change the one to who the bug is assigned? How can we find someone else you can take over this bug?

Comment 8 Andrei Kolu 2006-10-01 09:58:52 UTC
In FreeBSD 6.1 default config file is located in /usr/local/etc/xdg/menus/applications-kmenuedit.menu. Why it can`t reside in default folder /usr/local/share/config/menus as all KDE specific default config files? At least menus were not borked after changing menus with menueditor. Now it works correctly, this bug is solved. Thanks.

Hi Andrei,

how is it solved?! Can you be a bit more precise what you did?

Regards,
J.

Looks like I will need to grab the latest SVN, and enable lots of debugging output (if such a thing is possible). This is far from resolved. It still reproduces in 3.5.8 (the latest stable release). Please post if anyone has any updates.

Thank you,

Craig Jackson

According to the docs for kmenuedit (http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kdebase/kmenuedit/credits.html) the latest developer who migrated this to app to KDE 3.x was Lauri Watts (lauri@kde.org). Could someone (Maybe Waldo) re-assign this to her? This bug is a major blocker for basic usability.
