Description greatbunzinni 2006-03-25 14:00:48 UTC
Version: 1.5 beta2 (using KDE KDE 3.5.1)

It seems that KSpread doesn't coordinate the cell outline definitions of adjacent cells. To put it in other words, if a user edits the outline definition of a cell without also editing the neighbouring cells, the changes will not be presented although the definitions appear to be saved.

That is a major usability PitA because it forces the user to edit 2 to 5 cells just to implement the look of a single cell.

I don't understand. Could you describe this on an example?

Ok I'll try to explain myself better. Maybe I'm having dificulty expressing myself because I'm using translated terms from the PT translation to express myself.

Let's say that I format the A1 cell and I add a countour line to the left side of the cell (right click menu -> format cell -> contour and click on the left outline/contour button). Now there is a vertical line separating the A1 cell from the A2 cell. Then I format the A2 cell and I try to remove that line. When I do that (right click menu -> format cell -> contour) the contour dialog doesn't show a left line in that cell. To put it shortly, KSpread doesn't recognize A1's right outline as A2's left outline. That makes editing the cell's outlines a major PitA.

After a bit of usage it seems that cell outlines in kspread are completely borked. I've noticed that sometimes, after formatting a cell, kspread even renders the spreadsheet with cell outlines which were never added before on cells which were never edited before. The outline simply pops out of nowhere. To make matters worse, the outline appears and disapears randomly with the selection of certain cell groups that were never edited.

This bug stil persists on KSpread 1.5.2.

Besides that, maybe there is a duplication problem regarding report #87371. I'm not really sure because that report is filed as wishlist although the issue can be considered a bug but both pertrain to the exact same issue.

Hi greatbunzinni,

thank you for the feedback. I agree about the bug-factor of this and may it be only a usuability-bug that makes it (more) difficult to change the outline-format of cells.
So, let's mark this report as duplicate of #87371 (since the other report is older and imho it's always policy to mark newer as dups of older reports) and change #87371 from wishlist to "minor bug". That way it is reflected, that this issue is not a wish but somewhat a usuability-bug :)
