Description Michel Di Croci 2006-02-15 21:33:07 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.1)
Installed from: FreeBSD Ports

I would like to have a HTML frontend to Kontact and to offer the possibility to update my calendar through webdav or something like this. So this way the calendar would be available and updatable from everywhere through a simple http account. As well, I would have only one way to get all my email and not several place to configure my Email settings. This would greatly enhance the use of Kontact and maybe bring KDE look on other platform.

Isn't this what GroupDAV is supposed to be?

Maybe :) But it's not the part of how it is important for me. I know there's some groupware program (Kolab) that does this. What I want and I wish to have is a web interface for kmail that would let me access KDE Calendar or Email wherever I am.

It's just an idea, maybe there is a solution. Lately I tried nomachine and it's pretty fast... but I wasn't able to compile it on my system so I cannot test it. I might use a VNC server - client to achieve it but my idea it's not to be slow... I want a real web interface for the application that it will be accessing the info ;) Can you give me a link to that GroupDAV? The best way I would compare it is the web mail interface for Outlook on the exchange server. It's fast, easy to use, very similar... and I think that this idea might help bring Linux elsewhere.

I would prefer concentring the effort on porting QT to a web instead of KDE, so the next steps would be easier. I would be happy to help but I don't know where to start :)

It should be relatively easy to set up a Kolab Groupware server, that'll provide you with a webmail interface to the data Kontact / Kmail would pull from and save to the Kolab server.

Furthermore, nothing has happened to this ticket for the past 6(!) years, so I'm closing it off.

Should a Kolab Groupware server not suit your needs, please feel free to reopen this ticket and state the reasons why (a Kolab Groupware server does not suit your needs), please.
