Version: 1.9 (using KDE 3.5.0, compiled sources) Compiler: gcc version 3.4.3 OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.14.3-0 Load KMail and click a message in the top-right pane so that the preview is displayed in the lower-right pane. Now select some text from the message body in the preview. Tap ctrl. Observe: assorted tooltip-style boxes appear dotted around the preview, each containing a single ASCII character. Tap ctrl again and they disappear. Thankfully the mystery letters seem to have good intentions and have not caused any harm so far.
More info: each email address in the list of recipients or in the message body generates a 'tooltip'. The bug also occurs if you double-click a message and view it in its own window. The bug occurs when you view both html and plain text messages. The bug occurs independent of which header view you are using (via View->Headers).
Silly me. I've realised this isn't a bug at all: when viewing a webpage in Konqueror, pressing control has the same effect: a tooltip bearing a single letter appears over every hyperlink. Pressing the associated key activates the corresponding link. What a useful feature - once you know how it works! Konqueror helpfully says 'Access Keys activated' in the status bar when you press control. Perhaps some sort of thing would be appropriate in KMail? It's taken me this long to realise how it works - I'm sure there are others in the same situation. I suppose then that this is a feature request: some kind of indication of what is happening when you press control.
