Description Martin von Gagern 2006-02-10 02:02:14 UTC
Version: 3.5.1 (using KDE KDE 3.5.1)
Installed from: Gentoo Packages
Compiler: gcc: i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.4.5 -march=prescott -O2
OS: Linux

I have two panels configured in my KDE. The main panel at the bottom contains K Menu, desktop access, task bar, lock/logout, knetload, system tray and cklock.
An additional panel (just called "Panel") at the top of the screen contains a knewsticker. This worked fine in 3.5.0.

When I start KDE 3.5.1, the flag indicating my keyboard layout (kxkb) is not in the system tray where it should be, but rather in the top left corner, next to my newsticker. It is obscuring the hide button of this panel.

When I quit kxkb (right klick and quit) and restart it, it appears in the system tray where it should be. The spacing of the panel where the icon was displayed before does not change however.

I can reproduce this bug by restarting X and KDE.

I can confirm this bug, but it happens randomly on my system and with other icons too not only with kxkbd (knemo etc.)

Version: 3.5.1 (using KDE 3.5.1)
Installed from: Compiled Packages
Compiler: gcc: 3.4.3 CFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -mtune=athlon-xp"
CXXFLAGS="-O2 -march=athlon-xp -mtune=athlon-xp"
OS: Linux - Mandriva LE 2005 (the same on Mandriva 2006)
Qt: 3.3.5
KDE: 3.5.1
KDE Keyboard Tool: 0.9

I think this may be because kxkb starts before main panel does, then it would try to put itself in a system tray but won't find it and will live as a separate window. It's not kxkb bug, but rather more general ksystemtray behaviour.
It'd be nice if system tray widgets can place themselves in main panel after it (re)started.
