Version: 1.9.1 (using KDE KDE 3.5.0) Installed from: Debian testing/unstable Packages OS: Linux I just updated to KDE 3.5 / KMail 1.9.1. When selecting 'save attachments' on a mail with 2 or more attachments, a directory dialog pop's up. It asks me for a directory to save the files into. BUT: * I can't access my bookmarked directories. This makes the process of selecting a directory much slower. * I can't see any files in the selected directory. This cuts me off from: - a quick view into the directory (my decision to create a new directory might be based on the contents). - removing/renaming single files before I press OK (for saving). * People using 'save attachments' have to learn a new workflow (unnessecary) * The dialog looks like a clone of it's Win98 counterpart (ok, not an argument...) Since no new functionality has been introduced, but some functionality has been removed, I would like to see the old behaviour redone. A second step would be to enhance the file dialog with an 'directory only' mode. This mode should of course be switchable via menu. On the mailing list 'Debian-kde' I only found people who agree - none found the new directory dialog for good. Hasso Tepper form the KDE Estonian Team found the change withing the CVS. His advice was to revert this commit: http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-commits&m=112269694124848&w=2 Please think about it. The new workflow makes work harder - less productive. It is a step backward. All 'save' dialogs in all KDE programs should look the same. That's usability.
I can't see this behavior: o Save 1 file and you'll get a full fledged dialog; o Save >1 file and you'll get a dialog in order to select a directory for those files. A normal save dialog cannot handle multiple files, a directory selection is appropriate in this place.
sounds like 'goto beginning' :-( you just encountered what is described in the second sentence of the original post. but please read further and try to understand why me (and some other ppl) think the 'observed' behaviour sucks. 'WORKSFORME' to resolv this bug seems - nicely said - a bit too fast.
