Description Neil Whelchel 2006-01-18 09:55:29 UTC
Version: 2.3 (using KDE KDE 3.5.0)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources
Compiler: gcc version 4.0.2
OS: Linux

Ok, I am aware of the other slow bugs (Bug#64608 and Bug#67237), I think that this one is slightly different, so I am starting a new one.
In my case, I have a collection of about 200,000 mp3 files, about 800GB. A from scratch index takes about 40 min on my machine which I think is ok, if I click on ANY listing, I wait about 2 min. (I can scroll through the entire list without any problem.) Also typing any character in the search textarea takes about 2 min per char. Also while playing if I move the position slider, everything stops for about 2 min. If I manually advance to the next track again everything stops for about 2 min, however if the track finishes and it starts the next one on its own, there is no delay at all. Memory (swapping) doesn't seem to be a problem in this case, everything fits in what ram I have. Also, there is no disk access during the periods of waiting, only a pegged out CPU. One more strange thing about this one is that when I make a small play list < 20 files, the problem is intermittent. (Sometimes there is the 2 min wait and sometimes it works fine.)
