Version: 1.3.1 (using KDE 3.4.3, Kubuntu Package 4:3.4.3-0ubuntu1 ) Compiler: Target: i486-linux-gnu OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.12-9-686 I would like an option that would center the page in the window by default. As it is, the text of a typical Latex document (at a suitable scaling) will just fit in my Laptop window, but when I click to go to the next page, at the top of the window I see a lot of blank space. I have to scroll to see the text. If I had a centering option, I could just click through the pages to see all the text.
I'm not sure if I understand your problem correctly. But I think your suggestion is already implemented in the KDVI version of KDE 3.5. In the new version all navigation functions leave the horizontal aligment of the pages intact (at least in single page and continuous viewmodes). Please try the new version of KDVI, and if the behaviour is still not what you need, please reopen the bug with a more detailed description of your problem. Greetings, Wilfried Huss.
Wilifried, As you say, it doesn't seem that you understand my problem. With all due respect, it is better to leave feature requests open until all attempts have been made to reach an understanding. I want the page of DVI text to be automatically centered vertically in the window. What about this do you not understand? The version of KDVI I mentioned does not do this, as near as I can tell. Has a new feature been built into the new version that implements this functionality? I use KDE for work, and can't right now afford the time to unstall an untested version on my working system. So we'll have to wait until my distribution releases KDE 3.5 to come out. Let's hope we both remember to check to see if this little issue is dealt with!
Wilfried, I have now updated my KDE to 3.5, KDVI 1.3.1. I see nothing remotely like the option to center LaTeX page text in the KDVI window that I proposed, If I center the text in a window and go to the next page, the text is immediately un-centered again (this is particularly disppointing in Single Page view mode). I have to conclude that the upgrade does not address this feature reaquest; therefore I'm re-opening it. Please have another look.
KDVI 1.4 (using KDE 3.4.2, Mandriva 2006) I shall try to be more explicit on this question since for me this is an extremely annoying bug. In fact I adopted kdvi years ago just because it had by default a feature which seems to have disappeared in the later versions: namely the option "keep position", at least this is the name used by xdvik (v. 22.84.9), where it works perfectly. As far as I remember, kdvi 1.2 was OK from this point of view (certainly kdvi 1.1 used by SuSE 9.2 was ok). But kdvi 1.3.1 was just horible! The situation improved with kdvi 1.4 which is able to keep the "horizontal centering" (better than nothing;) however it does not allow you to keep the "vertical centering" of the page. So if you go from page 3 to page 4, you have to recenter it manually to see all the text on the page. What is in a certain sense amusing, is that people working on xdvi(k) decided to introduce the "keep position" option because at that time it existed on kdvi !!! Greetings, Vladimir Georgescu
Vladimir, A "keep vertical position" option would be better than my original idea of centering by default. There are situations in which one would like to look just at the bottom of the page--to check page numbering, for example.
Yes, "keep position" is a good solution, and its absence in kdvi is the only thing which keeps sending me back to xdvik. It would also be very useful to have a command for automatically zooming onto the content of the current page (clipping away the the blank margins).
kdvi is no longer maintained since KDE SC 4, and its functionality is replace by okular. If the issue in this report still exists in or apply to okular in KDE SC 4.10.5 or higher, please reassign the report to okular product or create a new report against okular.
