Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.3) Installed from: Ubuntu Packages OS: Linux The 'Regional & Accessibility' / ''Keyboard Shortcuts' control panel does not allow the Windows key to be used for shortcuts; rather, it can only be used in combination with other keys. It would be intuitive to ex-Windows users if this could be set up. Is there a technical reason (other than the one from BUG #84222--is that resolved?) that this is impossible?
Yes, it's impossible.
No, it's not entirely impossible. Desktop panel > System > Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts > [choose any_item]. Try to use Win+anything. Won't allow it! Can *ONLY* use the Win key *ALONE*. It may say "Super_L" or "Super_R", and there aren't that many choices to shortcut to. It would be nice if one could ADD items here to shortcut to, because this is the only "Keyboard Shortcuts" that Kubuntu honors at startup (kde won't reliably honor kcmkey <- NEEDS FIXING!). Be sure to use Backspace to disable any Left_Win or Right_Win that you don't really want to keep before you're done. donweber@starpower.net
Hi Guys! I've been told impossible is nothing. :D What exactly makes this impossible? Is it a bug in X? Where should we go and fix something so this would be possible here? I've been told that we can't do it because the key is a modifier key, ergo can only be used in conjunction with other keys. Where is this enforced? Can this be worked around for this single, very important case, albeit not breaking the modifier functionality? (because of course we still want other combinations to be possible with that key)
