Version:           2.6.1 (using KDE 3.4.3, Debian Package 4:3.4.3-2 (testing/unstable))
Compiler:          Target: i486-linux-gnu
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.12-1-k7

Clicking on the kmix icon in the systray open the master volume slider. The problem is that the slider overlaps and hides the own kmix icon. Before, the icon appeared over the panel border, so I was able to click again the kmix icon hidden the volume slider, which was quite handy.

I had not been using kmix for sometime, so I don't since this does not work.

I cannot reproduce the described issue with KDE3.4.2 and KDE3.5. Please see the attached screenshot. Perhaps you are using a bad build or have some other problem.
Generally this is not really a problem.
Just click *ANYWHERE* and the popup will disappear.
Or don't open the popup at all: there is a tooltip that shows the volume, and you can use the mouse-wheel for regulating the volume.
If you can't live with that, you could try an alternative version (other linux distribution or an other KDE version).

One extra comment: Because KDE3.5.0 contains a fix for the popup placement, I do presume that this problem is actually fixed. Thus closing this bug report.
