This is just an idea I had:

I often find myself looking for a clean desktop to start a new task on.
I wonder therefore if the desktop creation and deletion should not be made much dynamic.
For instance, rather than moving a window to 'desktop x' one could be able to select to move it to a 'new desktop'.

Empty desktops would be automatically deleted (except for the last remaining one of course).

I have not really thought all details through, but it seemed interesting enough to share.
