Version:            (using KDE 3.5.0-2.2.fc3.kde, Fedora Core release 3 (Heidelberg))
Compiler:          gcc version 3.4.4 20050721 (Red Hat 3.4.4-2)
OS:                Linux (i686) release 2.6.12-1.1381_FC3

Only after closing kontact and knotes and restarting knotes the newly created notes are visible. In general kontact/knotes and system tray/knotes are not synchronized.

I can reproduce this with 3.5 branch r489112 on FreeBSD

yes, sorry, it's hard to impossible to fix properly in KDE 3. It will be fixed for KDE 4.
