Leaving KMail (or Kontact) running while I put my Laptop in suspend-mode (softwaresuspend or suspend to disk) make the IMAPS connection dead. It's really annoying. After I restart KMail (or Kontakt) it works angain. Killing kio_imap4 helps as well. This doesn't happen if I suspend for a short time.

I can confirm this behaviour. KMail seems to have problems with network connections timing out while ths laptop is suspended.

Seems like the reason is the disconnection of the network interface as described in bug 77862. The specific case of suspend/resume is also mentioned in comment 2 for the same bug. Therefore marking as duplicate. Thanks Andras for pointing out.
