Description Rudolf Kollien 2005-12-15 16:01:36 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.0)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
OS: Linux

KDE 3.5.0 from SuSE RPMs
SuSE 9.3
Xinerama, 2 CRTs, different resolution

On Screen/Desktop 1 i've placed an taskbar on the top of the screen showing knewsticker. The main taskbar is on the bottom, auto-hide. On Screen/Desktop 2 there is a taskbar on the right side of the screen, auto-hide too.

Now when logging in to KDE the icons on BOTH screens are moved down (to don't get hidden by the top taskbar on screen 1??). This happens all time loging in. But the icons are already arranged manualy to don't be hiden by the taskbar and - why on screen 2 where no taskbar on top could hide the icons?

I can confirm this bug, it's the same bug as #117868 (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=117868) It completely messes up my desktop icon configuration... :-(
Comment 2 Johannes Katelaan 2006-01-11 15:49:14 UTC
I can confirm this bug, too. It has nothing to do with the xinerama configuration. It's just the taskbar at the top, that makes this happen. This is very annoying.
Comment 3 Allan Canush 2006-01-19 23:39:28 UTC
I have the same problem, except I have no auto-hide, just "Mac OS-style" topbanner, and icons slide up everytime.
Comment 4 mail 2006-08-20 23:38:22 UTC
The problem still exists under KDE 3.5.2 on Gentoo...
Comment 5 Rudolf Kollien 2006-09-22 16:28:22 UTC
The problem still exists under KDE 3.5.4 on SuSE (9.3/10.0/10.1)
Comment 6 mdhirsch 2007-05-25 06:05:05 UTC
I had this bug, but it was fixed for me sometime around 3.5.4. Well, with 3.5.6 and 3.5.7 on Kubuntu (AMD64) it's back. I can place icons at the top of the screen, just under my child panel (for MacOS-style menus) and when I log in they are no longer near the top, but quite a bit down.

I haven't noticed them continuing to more down.

I can confirm thi bug.
KDE 3.5.7, qt 3.3.8, Gentoo Linux
Main panel on the top, secondary panel on the bottom; top panel is still, bottom panel autohide. Icons jump up every new session if "Align to grid" option is checked.

Also confirmed on KDE 3.5.7 with OpenSUSE 10.2 packages (from build service). I only the top-of-screen menubar (Mac OS X-like). It scrambles my desktop icons' placement at each login.

It's probably too late to fix anything in the KDE 3.x series, but will it be fixed in KDE 4?
Comment 11 Thibaut Cousin 2007-10-09 09:28:01 UTC
The same KDE 3.5.7, but in OpenSUSE 10.3 instead of 10.2, no longer has that problem! I'm confused... Was it fixed upstream, or is it just OpenSUSE-specific?

Different arrangment (all at the top), but anything else the same in KDE 4.0.1
Comment 14 mdhirsch 2008-03-07 06:20:47 UTC
Confirming that it is still a problem in KDE 2.5.8 on amd 64 bit Kubuntu. Also, I use "menu bar at the top like in MacOS", and was thinking that this could be contributing to the issue. Since KDE 4 doesn't support that (yet) maybe it won't be an issue in KDE 4. Of course, that's part of the reason I'm not using KDE 4, yet.

Kdesktop is no more mantained. Fortunatly this bug seems not to be valid for KDE 4. Please reopen if this bug is not a kdesktop one (and it is not solved) or it can be reproduced on KDE 4.

Bug closed. Kdesktop is no more mantained.
