Description Matthew Cline 2000-09-26 10:06:09 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: knode
Version: 0.3.1 (KDE post 1.94 > 20000911)
Severity: wishlist

A nice feature would be a way of marking an article to indicate it should be
kept. The header and body for a kept article would never be flushed from the
cache and it would most always show up in an article list (for instance once
it became read it would still show up when the article filter was set to "unread").

Since this description probably isn't that good you can try looking for an
implementation of it in the Windows Forte Agent which I remember as having
this feature.

Bug 11802 (Keep message) should be unmerged from bugs 8206 8312 and 11181. Bugs 8206 and
others require offline capabilities where as 11802 does not. The feature described in
report 11802 is implemented in XNews which has no offline capabilites.

I've just moved from Windows to Linux and I have found KNode to be a very good
replacement for XNews but this is the only feature I miss.

*** Bug 77294 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Comment 3 Cláudio F. Gil 2005-01-06 16:07:43 UTC
I think that Bug 77294 is not a duplicate of this bug. In Bug 77294 the wish is that a article could be kept no mather what are the Cleanup settings. This does not imply that the body should be kept.

In respect to this wish, I also feel that knode should allow to preserve the whole article once fetched. After restarting knode, all previously retrieved articles would still be available (marked by the check sign). When considered for cleanup by knode they would be treated normally but both header and body would be cleaned up.

I don't feel the need for any special treatment of particular articles because it should be a global setting. When active bodies wouldn't be lost. When inactive the current behavior would occur.

What the heck ?
This wishlist was request in the year 2000 and still not fixed. If you don't want to accept, please reject it.
But I don't think there would be any good reason to reject it because it is a very valid and important feature request.
Comment 5 Thiago Macieira 2005-10-12 22:48:00 UTC
There's no need to close a wish that wasn't yet implemented, but may be in the future.
Comment 6 Tristan Miller 2006-03-23 17:39:45 UTC
A temporary workaround for this is to drag the articles to your "Saved messages" folder. Naturally, this isn't as convenient if you need to keep a large number of articles.
Comment 7 Graham P Davis 2011-12-17 18:49:39 UTC
That "temporary workaround" won't work as dragging to a local folder is no longer possible,

Knode is not maintained anymore. Please use kmail instead.

Since when has kmail been able to handle NNTP? I see no sign of how to configure it to do this.
Comment 10 Rex Dieter 2015-01-04 01:19:55 UTC
comment #8 does not appear to be indicative of any kde.org official position. re-opening.

Chao, if you feel otherwise, can you please explain more?

Let's see.. no bug fixed by the maintainer during the last years (nor any news from him) and KNode was removed from kdepim master.
Comment 12 Rex Dieter 2015-01-04 16:08:22 UTC
Fair enough.

Regardless, any (mass-)closing of knode bugs ought to be well-communicated and coordinated. I've seen neither so far.
Comment 13 Chao Feng 2015-01-05 05:10:08 UTC
The bug should change to unmaintained just to reflect actual fact.

If anyone want to maintain it, please step up.
Comment 14 Andrew Crouthamel 2018-09-04 18:39:36 UTC
Hello! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this project has been unmaintained for many years so I am closing this bug.
