I normally do some typical things on my PC (let's name them "use cases"). For example:
(1) Work on Project A
(2) Work on Project B
(3) Read news
(4) Use multimedia
etc.
Each use case mostly needs some certain applications. For example:
(1) Project A -- NetBeans IDE, Skype, Java API Docs opened in Konqueror, project documentation opened in Open Office.
(2) Project B -- Eclipse IDE, Oracle API Docs opened in Konqueror, certain files opened in KXML.
(3) Read news -- Akregator, English-Russian dictionary, Konqueror, Kontact.
(4) Use multimedia -- MPlayer, Xine, Real Player.
Etc.

So when I switch from one use case to another, I typically want to save state of all apps of the first use case and close them. Then I want to open all apps of the second use case and restore their previous state.

Would be good to implement such concept. For example, have an icon on the desktop that represents a use case. If clicked it launches all apps in it and restores their state.
