Description Andrew Kohlsmith 2005-11-14 15:14:06 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.92)
Installed from: Compiled From Sources

Why does Kopete let me navigate to a network share (smb:// in this case) but not select a file to send from a network share? Please either allow me to send a file from anywhere I can navigate (possibly copying to local storage if you REALLY must) or don't allow me to browse off the local storage systems. It's a little frustrating.
Comment 1 Olivier Goffart 2005-11-18 10:09:50 UTC
which protocol ?
Comment 2 Andrew Kohlsmith 2005-11-18 13:00:35 UTC
Ugh, my apologies. SMB.
Comment 3 Matt Rogers 2005-11-18 14:34:49 UTC
kopete protocol doesn't matter. This is a limitation in KFileDialog.
Comment 4 Andrew Kohlsmith 2005-11-18 14:37:03 UTC
Howso? I can pick files on SMB shares in Kate or Konqueror with the same file dialog and pull them up. It seems that only Kopete is checking if it's a local file and aborting if it's not.
Comment 5 Andrew Kohlsmith 2005-11-19 00:52:44 UTC
Ok I understand changing the problem title, but why wouldn't Kopete allow me to send a file that's on a network share? Is there some problem in accessing network files to send to someone that makes it different from accessing network files to edit in Kate, for example?
Comment 6 Thiago Macieira 2005-11-19 02:01:50 UTC
If they turned on the flag that says "local files only", they must have a technical reason for that. I don't know what it is.

well no they're two different issues.

If kfiledialog is invoked with a "Local Only" flag then it shouldn't allow browsing remote shares.

11681 is just a wishlist to kopete to allow you to send a remote file. kfiledialog letting you browse remote shares when local only is requested *is* a bug, or at least a nuisance.

Is this still an issue in the KF5 version?
