Version: (using KDE KDE 3.5.0) Installed from: SuSE RPMs Compiler: gcc version 3.3.5 20050117 (prerelease) (SUSE Linux) OS: Linux After install of kde 3.5 rc1 without open dependencies, no screensaver is shown in the control-center. Xscreensavers and kscreensavers work in the earlier settings (randomly, appearence after 4 minutes), but changing of the setting is not possible, because the screensavers were not loaded in the kcontrol module. A workaround by downgrading the kdeartwork-xscreensaver package which was any time successful in earlier kde versions was not successful (tried to 3.4.3) in 3.5 rc1. How to reproduce: Set screensavers on random in kde 3.5 beta2. Install kde 3.5 rc 1 over 3.5 beta2. Open the screensaver-module in the kde control center. No screensavers are shown. Expected behaviour: Screensavers are listed, prewiew and custom settings are possible.
Same here, using the 3.5-rc1 kubuntu packages. However this seems to affect only one user account on my system, if I login as someone else everything seems to be ok. I have no idea what's causing this though...
Same behaviour with the kdebase 3.5.0-3 packege from ftp.suse.com.
The failure is only in the user accounts, customizing of the screensavers works as root.
Pleas check that the permissions of the .kde directory are as exepected (e.g. owned by the right user). Preferably chmod -R the directory.
This doesn't seem to be a permission problem. I ran chown -R myuser.mygroup .kde; chmod -R u+rw .kde this doesn't seem to change anything. The list of screensavers is still empty. Using KDE 3.5.2 from Ubuntu Dapper, btw.
I can't reproduce this with Dapper Drake, it works correctly for me. You said it worked with a different user, so I guess something is corrupted, but I have no idea what could cause it.
Hello! Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this project has been unmaintained for many years so I am closing this bug. Kcontrol has been replaced by System Settings in Plasma. Please give the latest version of that a try, and open a new bug in "systemsettings" if you continue to have an issue. Thank you!
