Description ralf@skolelinux.de 2005-10-23 14:12:34 UTC
Version: 1.6 (using KDE 3.3.2, (3.1))
Compiler: gcc version 3.3.6 (Debian 1:3.3.6-5)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.8-2-k7

Dear KDE Team,

as I mentioned once on kde-edu mailing list, we (skolelinux.de) are gathering some proposals for educational software from teachers and users at
http://skolelinux.de/wiki/LernSoftware/Desiderata

I could imagine, that some of the uttered wishes could be met by extending KCalc:

1. Additional to the "Settings" menu where you can activate different features bit by bit, I propose to have a "Profile" or "Mode" menu, where you can choose from "Basic", "College", "Scientific" - maybe also some free defined profiles.

2. The pocket calculators we use at schools, nowardays, differ from what most of us will be used to: Calculating a square root, e.g., is done by _first_ pressing the SQRT key and _then_ enter the argument. This order is in most cases shown in the display, where you can edit the formula.
Probably it is hard to decide if such feature should be integrated.

3. In highschool, more and more graphical pocket calculators are introduced. We could argue if this is only an interim phase - being replaced by smartphones step by step. But, anyway, there have been suggestions to emulate most common devices by KDE software.

Thanks for reading
Regards
Ralf.
