Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.0) Installed from: SuSE RPMs I've been looking for a note-taking application, instead of Microsoft OneNote. And then I realized that it is one of the thew things missing in Linux. Well my point is that it would be very easy to make Kword into a note-taking application, that has more features then Microsoft OneNote... All you have to do: * Add a treeview to organise notes in. * Make the app auto save * Put the treeview where the "document structure" are * Change icons and name * Add it to Koffice Then you would have a note-taking application like: http://knowit.sourceforge.net/screenshots.php Only that you're version has all the features of Kword, that is more then Microsofts OneNote has... for an exsample you would have support for formulas...
We are looking at introducing a mindmapping tool into KOffice. This might be sort of what you are looking for.
A mindmapping tool is not the same as an outliner. Knowit (and Onenote, I think) have their nodes organized in a tree structure. Mindmapping tools do not have this tree structure, at least, not from a UI perspective. That said, Knowit is one of two tools (Kate is the other) that keep me addicted to KDE. I would love to see the app developed further, however, not perverted into a word processor.
*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 32320 ***
This bug is not a dupe of 32320. Bug 32320 requests an Outline mode in Kword, similar to that found in MS Word. This bug requests, among other things, a treeview for organising separate pages/documents/sections which have no linear continuity. In my opinion this would be better implemented as a new Koffice / Calligra application and not as an addition to Kword. But it is a very valid request and such applications (similar to Basket or KnowIt) are very useful. Unfortunately, both Basket and KnowIt have been abandoned, and Basket even when it was maintained did not conform to the simple text-document paradigm.
Sorry if the mark as duplicate was confusing; the bug was indeed not a pure duplicate but both bugs had requirements for the same components. Both usecases had to be taken into account when looking at a solution.
Note that in Calligra we wrote and added Braindump ( https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=114894 ) as OneNote-replacement. You can grab it from http://community.kde.org/Calligra/Building/Building_Calligra#Get_the_source_code_for_the_development_version .
Ah, wrong link to Braindump. Next try: http://blog.cberger.net/2010/12/31/koffice-2-3-0-braindump-0-10-0/
Thanks, Braindump is very far from being what this RFE requests. Braindump, for one thing, lacks hierarchy.
I see. I added bug 266377 against braindump to ask for a way to have hierachy. As usual thanks for the feedback Dotan :)
Thank you for your bug report or feature suggestion. The "KOffice" application suite is no longer maintained, and all tickets are now closed. We recommend to switch to the "Calligra" application suite, which has replacements for all unmaintained KOffice applications: - KWord was replaced with Calligra Words - KPlato was replaced with Calligra Plan For more information, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calligra_Suite (This is an automatic message from the KDE bug triaging team)
