Description Eric Drechsel 2005-10-19 19:37:42 UTC
Version: (using KDE KDE 3.4.92)
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

There is no default shortcut for minimal mode, so the only way I can find to leave it is to quit and reload. There is no right-click menu with the Xine backend, so that isn't a valid place to put it. The auto-hide control bar at the bottom isn't obvious and is hard to trigger, but a "return to full mode" button or right-click item could go there.

I think the best step would be to set a default shortcut for the toggle, then display a popup confirmation:

"You have chosen minimal mode. You will need to press ${shortcut} to return to full mode. Are you sure you want to continue?" Yes | No

Two other quibbles:
In the settings menu, Menubar and Statusbar are Show/Hide , but Toolbar has a checkbox with the text fixed at "Show". This should be consistant one way or the other.

It should be possible to enable "Close to systray" in settings menu or configure kmplayer dialog. This is how the other kde media players behave, and although in many cases that is a good reason to do the opposite (smirk kaffeine blows ahem), in this case I think it makes sense.

Also, I think View/Arts Control is not very useful (maybe to the developer) and should be removed.

Anyway, thanks for a wonderful, truly fabulous, really really great media player that plays all my netradio streams. When is it going into core? I love you man. Peace.

Makes sense to add a default shortcut for minimal mode toggling. I don't think a popup would be appropriate, because there is no man overboard if only a restart would bring the user back to normal view IMO. And popups conflicts with the idea of a click&play type of application.
For hiding the menubar, there is now a 2s note in the statusbar. However when enabling minimal mode, showing the statusbar for some time would be truely annoying I think.

Hmm, indeed not very consistant with the Hide/Show/Show entries. Will fix that ..

Remark about systray was cancelled by private mail

Yes Arts Control is a leftover from long ago. Doesn't really hurt as this only does some DCOP calls, but I remove it indeed.

There is still no default shortcut for minimal mode toggling. What about "M". Shall I file a seperate bug-report for that?
